It’s called "lower the drinking age."
Kids drink because it’s cool. It’s cool because it’s taboo. Take away the taboo, take away the cool, take away underage drinking. Other countries have already proven this works.
Fun fact: replace a few words in the paragraph above and it can be used as a bulletproof argument for almost anything that’s illegal for stupid reasons. Examples: piracy, cannabis, loitering, skateboarding laws, etc.
Just as much as guns are responsible for gun crimes.

Car manufacturers are not responsible for people driving drunk. That is individual responsibility. Most states force chronic drunk drivers to have breathalizers in the car. If you blow any trace of booze the car does not start. But you have to earn this. Most people are not that stupid to drive totally smashed and you want to punish the masses for the sins of the few. Nice liberal.

At one time there was a proposal to require sensors to detect that the driver is falling asleep.
Some research study found that drowsy driving is the leading cause of accidents.
So they were going to install sensors to detect that the driver is falling asleep.
And if he is, then the device would use cell phone technology to phone the police, so they could stop your car and give you a ticket.
You must be punished to stop you from driving in a dangerously impaired condition.
There was a suggestion that they system could also sound an alarm to wake up the driver. But this was rejected because the alarm might startle the driver and cause an accident.
For some reason that Obama would not be able to figure out, this idea was wildly unpopular, so the whole thing was scrapped.
Also, there was a proposal to add an elaborate system of parachutes to commercial jetliners to prevent crashes. At first, people said airlines woiuld be responsible for all crashes if they did not install such a parachute system.
But then it was pointed out that a parachute system would not work in the majority of airline crashes, and the cost of it would add an average of $1,000 to the price of an airline ticket.
This idea was also quietly dropped.

Those only go in when you get convicted, blow to get a start. I remember an argument with a professor, who later joined in a venture to manufacture some of the first ones. He didn’t think the technology existed, I assured him it did, but nobody had asked for it. That professor was also a Superior Court Judge, who made a bundle ordering those convicted of a DUI to install the device in their cars. LOL
