What is the effect of car air bags on people in car accidents?

Besides the fact that they may or may not save your life, are there any studies of the effect of car airs bags on people in Car Accidents? Because when that white fluffy thing pops out of the the car steering wheel, it can cause whiplash in the neck and some physical ailments.

Yes studies have been done on the usefulness of airbags. Generally speaking airbags save lives, and while they can cause injury usually it is far better then if they did not go off at all. It really depends on the type of accident. Generally especially newer models which do not go off at low speeds have been pr oven to be much safer. Older airbags that went off at low speeds with minor accidents did cause injury that would not have occurred if an airbag was not present. Airbags can be very dangerous to small children, which is why it is best to have them in the back.

At the end of the day, the second generation airbags while they can cause injuries save lives. The injuries that can occur are far less damaging then what would happen if they were not present. They work by spreading out the impact over a greater period of time. We all here about them causing injuries, but often people do not take into account what could have happened it not there at all.

How many in a million die from car accidents?

I read on a web page about anaesthesia, that for every one million times general anaesthesia is performed two deaths occur. It said that a person is more likely to die from a car accident on the way there than from the actual anaesthesia. I am just wondering how true this is. Does anyone know how many people in a million die from Car Accidents?

As I recall, circa 1990, in the U.S., there were approximately 40,000 deaths from car accidents per year and a total population of approximately 250 million. If this is correct, that means approximately 160 deaths from car accidents per year per million inhabitants, or slightly less than 1/2 death from car accidents per day per million inhabitants.

What good are attornies in car accidents?

What good does attornies for accidents they do not help you recieve more money, recieve it any faster, and if the insurance companies can still get by not paying for all of the medical bills and if they won’t even help you recieve your lost wages from loss of work sooner. From everything I’ve read online along with answers recieved on my other question about my car accident, it appears to me that theres nothing I can do to get my lost wages sooner, make them pay all bills occured from the accident, or even get a settlement faster than I would w/o an attorney. So why hire an attorney who will collect 10 1/2% of any settlement I may eventually recieve if having an attorney does not protect your rights or help in anyway?

it depends on the extent of your injuries and the damage to your vehicle. if the injuries are great, and life altering then you might want an attorney. like broken bones, overnight hospitization, surgeries, etc.

if the vehicle is totaled, then you might want to consider an attorney.

also, if there is any doubt to who is at fault, like if the other party did NOT get a citation, but you feel they were at fault or you have witnesses they were at fault, but no police report to support that claim then you might want an attorney.

if it a clear cut case and they admit they were at fault and were cited, then you CAN do it without an attorney, but you need to put your negotiator hat on to do so..

keep track of everything. if you have back or neck issues go to a chiropractor and a doctor, do both. let them know you had an accident and you were not at fault and typically they will treat you up front.
