Generally speaking airbags save lives, and while they can cause injury usually it is far better then if they did not go off at all. It really depends on the type of accident. Generally especially newer models which do not go off at low speeds have been pr oven to be much safer. Older airbags that went off at low speeds with minor accidents did cause injury that would not have occurred if an airbag was not present. Airbags can be very dangerous to small children, which is why it is best to have them in the back. At the end of the day, the second generation airbags while they can cause injuries save lives. The injuries that can occur are far less damaging then what would happen if they were not present. They work by spreading out the impact over a greater period of time.
